Welcome to my website!
Like many of my friends and colleagues around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic offers a myriad of challenges to not only our lives but our profession, both from a performing and from a teaching standpoint. With all live, in-person contact all but impossible for an indeterminate amount of time, do we put our instruments down and just wait for this strange time to end?
I was moved by the stories of nurses and health care workers playing recorded or streamed music for their patients. Among other things, I teach and run the chamber program at the Hartt School. As the end of the semester chamber projects (now all video, most virtual) started pouring in, I thought- why not put the two together? See and listen to music of comfort in the "Hartt for the Heart" section.
With renewed determination to learn the under promoted music of Black composers, I am featuring a short entry on a different composer a few times a week on my new forum "Black Composers." I hope you can enjoy learning about new composers and listening to an essential part of this country's musical heritage.
The pandemic also coincided with the release of my duo's fourth CD, "Threaded Sky," which featured the music of contemporary composers writing about and for the spirit. You can listen to samples on my "Music" page.
May music be a balm to all of our spirits in these times.
